It will be an exciting moment when the finished CDs arrive and your album is finally in your hands. The good and bad news is that even at this stage the project isn't necessarily over. But the arrival of the final product is certainly a good reason to celebrate - so why not make the release an exciting occasion in itself by holding an event to launch the album?
As well as a chance to celebrate - and a party might not be a bad idea to introduce the product and thank everyone who's been involved in making it a success - a launch can mark the start of your sales campaign and contribute to making your project profitable as well as successful.
One of the most popular and successful approaches is to organise a concert, featuring the performers and repertoire from the CD. If you can promote the concert in its own right to your usual audiences and beyond you should be able to interest a large number of people in the CD and provide them with the chance to buy one of the first copies "hot off the press".
Alongside the concert or other event, you may be able to mount an exhibition demonstrating how the artwork was chosen and developed or displaying photos from the recording session. If you've worked with local photographers, artists or designers why not offer them the chance to exhibit some of their other work at the same time?
To keep the focus on the album itself, make sure it's easy for people to buy their own copy at the concert. As well as a central stand or display to act as the main sales point, you could send some of your performers out to wander round the audience during the interval and sell a few copies each.
It's often possible to obtain enlarged copies of the CD cover to form the centrepiece of a display and various display racks are available (or you could fabricate your own) to display a quantity of CDs in an eye-catching way. This will not only enhance the launch but could also be reused for future sales opportunities - for example during concerts, tours, or social events.
