Matt Parkin is a recording engineer and producer, specialising in classical music. Over the past 15 years he has produced around 60 albums and engineered hundreds of recordings throughout the UK, Europe and USA for CD, radio, film soundtracks and television.
Matt was educated at Dulwich College and the University of Surrey, graduating with honours from the renowned Tonmeister course in music and sound recording in 1995. At Surrey he was awarded the AMS Neve Prize for Creative Recording and also developed an interest in conducting, studying with Nicholas Conran and conducting the universitys wind ensemble, chamber orchestra and symphony orchestra.
Whilst still a student Matt embarked on a professional career in the recording industry. During this time he worked with producers such as Alexander Waugh, Anthony Askew and Brian Hillson. He developed specialist skills in digital editing for classical music, working on a number of releases for the ASV label, including several albums by the Lindsay String Quartet, and also specialised in choral and brass band recording.
After graduation Matt joined the full time staff of B&H Sound Services Ltd as a recording engineer and editor. He quickly took on additional responsibilities, organising projects and working as producer on numerous albums, establishing lasting relationships with a number of artists. From 1997 Matt took on the day-to-day management of B&Hs recording department and helped to kick-start a period of growth and expansion which has continued to the present day. During his time at B&H he spearheaded a company-wide marketing initiative and led workshops for choir, band and youth conductors on how to arrange and prepare for CD recordings.
In March 2000 Matt left B&H to work in the broadcast sector, specialising in sound balancing for classical music. As well as working with many of the world's greatest orchestras, conductors and soloists, he has expanded into the jazz and big band fields and worked with a number of high profile rock, pop and folk musicians.
Career highlights to date have included: supervising, engineering and producing the recording of the annual Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall for radio and CD for 7 years from 1995 to 2001; producing 6 albums of choral works written and conducted by the composer Margaret Rizza; engineering the orchestral soundtrack for the Emmy award winning animation Robbie the Reindeer Legend of the Lost Tribe, and supervising and engineering the radio broadcast of Scottish Operas production of Wagners Ring Cycle, which won an award for technical innovation in 2003.
